Would it be a better idea to sandblast the calipers first at low psi

Yes. The OEM calipers have a thin sacrificial corrosion coating; Zinc I think. Removal of this coating and getting to clean, bare metal will provide maximum adhesion of the paint. Need to run a paint with high ceramic content made for brake calipers like from VHT. Best to spray on but can be carefully brushed on. Removal of all grease and grit is paramount.

You will need to take the caliper and bracket off the car and completely take it apart. It is very simple to do. Then you can use a parts washer or bucket with some caliper cleaner spray to clean the parts off as much as possible. It will need to be rinsed several times with clean solvent then wiped with a clean lint free rag Finish it up a grease, wax, oil remover prep solvent and a lint free rag. Be careful to mask off the areas where the caliper piston, bleeder valve, line fitting, and slides for the pads so they get no paint on them. This is very critical for proper operation, prevent leaks and contamination. You will need to use a caliper rebuild kit which cost about $25 from the Dealership.

I was actually debating on even sending mine off to be powder coated. its expensive and takes time but you get what you pay for. its either that or I'm painting them a dark royal blue. I also just got some new motegi racing rims MR281 which they actually match a lot better than i thought it would. I have a dark charcoal grey colored car
