hey, im ordering a body kit for my tC, and i'm not going to pay some ******* 5983 dollars to paint it... im painting it myself, however i am inexperienced and a bit nervous. I am getting the right paint to make a perfect match, and am going to rattle can the whole thing. (front and rear bumpers, and side skirts). Whats a good way to rattle can such a thing? any good links to educational websites regarding this? Anything helps. thanks.

Sand the body kit with 1,000-grit sandpaper to ready it for paint. This allows the paint to "grab" better, creating less peeling later. Make sure to sand in crevices and around corners.

Clean the body kit with a wax and grease remover to clean everything from the surface.

Set up the pieces of the body kit on stands such as saw horses so there is access to the underside of the kit. It can also be set on a clean tarp on the ground.

Spray primer on the entire body kit. Spray an even coat, being careful not to get it too thick in any one area.

Allow the primer to dry completely. Sand the entire kit again with 2,000-grit sandpaper to remove the "dusty" portion of the primer. Be careful not to sand completely through the primer.

Clean the body kit again with the wax and grease remover to remove surface debris.

Spray paint on the entire body kit, being careful to spray evenly. Avoid runs in the paint by spraying with slow, even strokes. Allow the paint to dry and then apply the clear coat.

    body kit paint

alright thanks. That helps. Other than slow even strokes what else would you suggest as far as "painting" it goes? how far away should i be spraying from? typically how long should it take for me to completely paint the kit? what happens if it does run?

Normally, you would spray about 12" or so away from the panels. I can't give you an estimate on time, different people paint at different speeds. Don't rush it though. Take your time and do it right the first time. If it does run, I would suggest just waiting until it fully dries, sand it back down, and start all over.

A clean and dust-free location is key for a flawless finish. A slight negative airflow while painting will cut down overspray.
