just purchased energy suspension bushings for my girlfriends tc. it's a 2005 automatic.. it calls for 18mm, but the tab on the bushing i took off says 20. with the new 18mm on and tightened up, there's a little gap. any idea why there would be a bigger sway bar on this car? toyota said there isn't a trd package, and there is nothing modified on this car, so i wouldn't imagine the swaybar would be modified. she got the car used from another girl.. i'm not sure if i should put the old ones back on or what...

Are you sure you purchased the kit for the 05? I dont know of any major changes in suspension but often times little details like that can change...could possibly be an EBAY brand after market setup as well do you have a better description of the cars history before your girlfriend bought it? Maybe another tuner picked it up and then resold it or something? Let me do some googling and get back to you.

Crap man! You must be slushing through the road salt. That corrosion makes me ill. Sorry, it is the military acumen talking.

From the looks of it, you do not have an odd sized OEM unit nor that of a TRD upgrade (would have been red swaybar). It is possible that wrong kit was sent. I will look at what the specs are and get back to you. In the mean time though, put the stockers back in. It is not good to have any slop in the bushings and those red ones would eventually migrate (wear) into the open slot.

Straight from our very own archives http://www.club-tc.com/forums/tc-knowledgebase/5079-tc-facts.html#post26357 by my sometimes absent (no internet) co-moderator, Redneck4csa.

    - The rear anti-sway bar on an automatic is 20 mm thick. on a manual, 18 mm.

I never realized there was difference. Can you confer that your girl's ride has the old slush box (auto)? I bet it does. :) This would explain the difference. Not exactly positive why the 2mm difference except for car handling from the lower gearing in the manual. This would breathe new life into those 20mm auto swaybars sitting out there in people's garages that upgraded. Could be a cheap upgrade. Heck, it should be free from a bud. I can't seem to get Energy Suspension's website to work for me over here in Sicily so you will have to contact them directly to rectify the problem.

BTW... - The front anti-sway bar is 21 mm for both trans models.
