Here are some up close and personal shots of the ECM for your Scion tC. All control modules (window control, TPWS, EBFD, A/C control, Cluster gauge, etc) connect directly to the ECM via the CAN network. The ECM actually contains 2 processors for mirrored redundancy of key functions as in the Drive-By-Wire-System (DBWS) for one. The entire system is also completely encrypted requiring the TRD Data Transfer Device (DB 15) to interface the TRD reflash module for the TRD S/C.

Note: This encryption has yet to be cracked so there are no performance chips or maps that will work on this ECM. Only a piggyback controller can adapt signals to increase performance. AEM, UniChip PNP, Greddy Ultimate, Apexi are the most prevalent used.

The 2005-2006 ECM is on a hybrid OBDII/CAN network (aka OBDIII) and therefore, not compatible with current CAN information display, such as, the MSD Dashhawk, Greddy Informeter. Products like the Blitz R-Vit/ DS and HKS Camp I/II are unconfirmed.

Caution: You will have to contact the vendor for such units to determine if pins 6 and 14 (CANL/CANH databits) on the DLC3 connector (Diagnostics Link - aka OBDII port) have to be populated (there). The 2005-2006 ECM does not have these pins wired in the DLC3 connector.

with the 2007-UP ECM that follows the CAN standard. This is mandatory for all vehicles sold in the US beginning with the 2008 model year deadline, but most manufacturers instigated this on their 2007 models.

Due to the variances in wiring pinouts, 2005-2006 and 2007~Up ECM information will be located in two separate posts.

    HINT:
The standard normal voltage between each pair of ECM terminals is shown in the table below. The appropriate conditions for checking each pair of terminals is also indicated. The result of checks should be compared with the standard normal voltage for that pair of terminals, displayed in the STD Voltage column.
The illustration above can be used as a reference to identify the ECM terminal locations.

*1: The ECM terminal voltage is constant regardless of the output voltage from the sensor.
