when it gets warmer here, i plain on doing my wife's shocks and struts. The last time i did shock a struts was 6 yrs ago and that was on a older car(1993). With scion do i need to know anything different, i know theres more sensor on newer cars.I'm also thinking about getting used shocks and struts, would that be a good idea or i should get new ones?
How many miles does a shock and strut before there go?

IMO, I would buy new struts, there no guarantee that the used ones will long last or be safe. Pending on how you or your wife drives and the conditions of the roads will determine how long the struts will last. 3-6 years on average life span of a strut/shock.

I have honestly never done them, although I will be learning very soon when I change out my struts and springs.

Struts tend to last a bit longer than shocks. They are beefier due to the stress loads induced upon them. This means there is more oil to keep the unit cooler. Many factors determine the life of a strut cartridge including the design of the suspension, the quality of the OEM component, and the conditions in which the vehicle is driven in. One should expect a decent car on decent roads to last well above 50K miles before the ride quality noticeably begins to suffer. With today's modern cars, I would expect the struts to last upwards to 70K miles. There is a difference between ride quality and a total failure of a strut to control rebound and compression. Full mechanical failure is rare in a strut. Usually the upper strut mount (considered a separate component) will go bad in the front before the strut will. Cars back in the 1980's, you were looking at your struts/ shocks being worn out around 30K miles.

Install can be daunting but fairly easy with instruction and the correct tools. Always do one side at a time (like you would do brakes) so that you have something to go by. We have a full how-to in our Suspension section of Tech Articles.http://www.club-tc.com/forums/suspension/

Are you looking to buy OEM struts or looking for install instructions? If it is the latter, the instructions are the same no matter what strut/spring that you are using.

OEM struts on the Scion tC's are McPherson, not a 100% sure, but they may be a dealer item only. Correct me if I am wrong.

OK, I was thinking you were talking about the front struts. Though the Scion tC manual calls the dampeners in the rear shocks, they are actually a type of strut similar to McPherson style.

You can see that the shock actually has a lower spring perch on it like the front strut. Just like the front, the upper spring perch is part of the strut mount. It is an integral part for mounting the spring. The difference in design is that McPherson struts form the upper mount for the front wheel hub. In the rear, the double wishbone suspension has an upper mount on the wheel hub to locate it better in hard cornering.
Note: The 2011 tC has the rear spring inboard of the rear shock for a traditional shock/spring mounting system. That limits aftermarket coil-over capabilities.

Not sure about this brand. Seems that no one has heard of this company before. Must be some Chinese product. Advise you seek something different like Tokico or KYB.
