So my car is only a year old and its been in the shop 6 or 7 times already. Out of curiousity, has anyone had a problem with a sound coming from the front of the car.... maybe a tension bar.... making a loud banging noise when you back up, then go forward and apply the brakes? OR when you turn your wheel all the way to the right or left.....move forward and then braking? This sound is driving me insane. I took it in once before (it is currently at the shop as i type) and they gave it back, unfixed, and said it was a standard sound on all tC's....ummm....im thinking NO! So i made the tech take me in a brand new tC to show me its standard and ..... wierd..... NO SOUND!! But its "standard" right?!?!?!?!

Anyone dealing with the same sound? How many times do i have to take it in for problems the first year before i can declare it a lemon? I mean i just dont have the time to be taking my car in every other week!

Mine makes the "cranking" or "popping" sound from under the hood as well. This only happens when my car has been sitting for a while and I go to back up. I don't normally get it from moving forward.

My car goes in for regular maintenance in 2 weeks so they'll be checking it out then.

    Frustrated even more now!!!

I just picked up my car from the dealership about an hour ago. They state once again that its standard for all scions. My problem is the fact that i havent seen anyone else post about the sound. It happens EVERYDAY, EVERY TIME i back up, throw it into drive and then apply the brakes. I am soooo angry right now. Im taking it to another dealership. FREEMAN TOYOTA IN SANTA ROSA, CA BLOWS! I refuse to believe that this sound is normal, especially when i had my personal machanic look at it and tell me it is definantly not normal.

take it to other dealer it could be drive axle if it makes clunking sound when you are turning tight turns. tighter the turn more noise. maybe as simple as loose down pipe or something. Make them fix it or mention lemon law...

    same here

i had the same problem but i cheked it out for my self, it was the k bar that conects to my wheels. it kind of looks like a triangle, one of the screws was loose and everytime i turned or made any sudden move it will make a loud noise. put ur car on a lift or a jack with all front wheels of the ground.Grab ur tire and jerk it around to c if it makes noise. then chek ur screws by the wheels on the axle

That just doesn't sound right. A brand new car shouldn't make ANY noises. I would take it to another dealership and if they can not find anything wrong with it I would tell them that you are not satisfied and that if they aren't gonna do anything about it you want another car. Maybe try and take it somewhere besides the dealership and pay to have them look at it. When they do find out whats wrong send the dealership the bill. SOMETHING does not sound right. Sorry you're having so many problems. I hope you can get this taken care of and please keep us posted.

Dealers are never ones to WANT to check problems out. They are just like us on the forums. They call and wait for answers to see if it is isolated or on a grander scale. The reason being that they have to prove to the manufacturer that the problem is an actual flaw or defect to get reimbursed. That is why some new car owners end up splitting the bill with the dealer, eg dealer pays labor, you pay parts. Of course, the dealer is paying the mechanic anway so the labor is a n cost issue for them. Some warranty system, huh? Holds true with just about any car make.

    Nice tC, nice poster

    Not Good.

Roxy I would definatley push the issue and if they do nothing take the car to a local mechanic, then if they find something make the dealer cover it under warranty. I have on 06' TC that has never made a noise that sounds like what you are describing... so I would guess that its not "standard" for all TC's to do it. One question though, is your TC bone stock or did you upgrade to a supercharger or add a front strut-bar or anything like that? I have noticed that sometimes the strut bars if not properly installed can rattle. Also, as with most superchargers they make some noise, but I don't think it's that. Hope you get it fixed, and don't let the dealership push you around because you're a female.

Note here: Scion mechanics are actually just toyota mechanics. Ye the Scion is Brand is in the Toyota family and yes most of the parts on the car are similar to other Toyotas. The problem lies in that these guys get very minimal training on the Scion Brand for that same reason. As all of you have come to realize, there ARE differences in when compared to Toyota cars. The chasis and how the power train and electronics integrate are the biggest differences.

As such, I have deemed from personal experiance and from reading the forums, that Toyota Dealerships are pretty much clueless when it comes to the Scion. My ride is lowered to the OEM option height similar to the TRD lowering. The Dealer had no clue as to if they could even align it. In fact, they damaged my side rails trying to get it off their alignment machine. I believe this to be the number one in Service dissatisfaction.

    Thanks everyone

So I continue to take my car in. I've visited multiple dealerships..etc. Some say its standard. Others say they can not verify the sound or where its coming from (taking my word for it isnt enough for them). Im never gonna get the answer im looking for. I leave the dealerships soooo angry because i know they just dont want to take the time to find the problem. I ask to see the supervisor and at every dealership..... he is magically disappears and of course no one has seen him. Basically.... i've come to the conclusion that until i can come in contact with someone that has had a similar experience... theres nothing i can do. Im sure if i grew an extra 2 feet and grew a pair...someone would have answers for me!!!

Your hitting the stops on the rack and pinion. That is normal if you drive the wheel hard right or left all the way.
