Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and just picked up a tC. I am looking to get some new rims, I was thinking about 19's, but I noticed most everybody is running 18's. Just wondering if there are any particular reasons 18's are more popular than 19's. Thanks in advance!!

:iagree: If you look at any sports car put on the road, you will see that it comes from the factory with either 17's or 18's. There's a reason for that.

18's actually look big on the car. Stick with some nice 18 and nice lowpro tires

As Redneck4csa alluded to, 19" and larger wheels ony cause the suspension to act poorly due to the extra weight of the larger wheel and the geometry of a larger diameter wheel. The last can be minimized by running a smaller sidewall height tire to match that of an 18" standard tire/wheel setup. Problem is, as also stated, is a tire that is dangerously inable to keep the contact patch of the thread to the pavement nor the ability to absorb impact loads from potholes without damage to the wheel bead lip. Most enthusiast and professionally road course vehicles actually run on 17" wheels. Most draggers run on 15-16" rims to amke room for drag slicks. If you want 19's for show, then by all means, get them. Just know that performance and safety drops.

    thicker tires?

has anybody put a set of thicker tires on your tc? i would like to put thicker tires on my because i drive to dc and the roads there are pretty messed up, and the ride can get extremely loud. so my question is: would that affect the performance of the car? thanks.

What do you mean by thicker? Wider or taller?

I believe he is talking about taller sidewall. That will affect handling performance. You can mitigate this by invested in a high quality tire with performance designed sidewalls and thread blocking.
