I have a 2006 Scion tC. Got in a minor accident. The fender needs to be replaced. I was wondering if would be smarter to get it done at the Scion dealer where I purchased the car or at a local body shop? Would they overcharge me at the dealer?

You can get it done at any local shop, but beware. The problem is that our body panels were made and painted in Japan in their paint booths with their paint. It's very difficult to try and match it perfectly.

If you want it to look the best, I would go to a dealership. I'm fairly certain that they can order a replacement fender already painted. To me, cost should not be a factor if you want it to look perfect.

Most Dealerships don't have their own paint and body shops anymore. They farm their work out so you have no idea of the quality or brand of paint that will be used. The fenders come unpainted (95% positive). Best to get the fender from the Dealership direct as an independent body shop is liable to get a cheap aftermarket unit (if there are any). I am not sure if the OEM paint is available or not from the Dealership. Don't believe what these shops tell you. They are in it for the money so they will use the cheapest parts/materials to make a buck.
