    okay
    so i plan on getting
    18x8 tork imagine wheels

    would 245/40 tires work?
with an tein htech lowering springs(1.9 front, 1.5 back)

    or should i try offsets
    and go with
    18x8 in the front
    and 18x9 in the back?
mostly im just looking for rubbing issues

if so, what size tires should i go with?

For 18x9 to fit, you will have to get the offset just right and run a smaller than normal tire. Stock 7" is +45mm, 8" should be +42mm, 8.5" should be +40mm, 9" +38mm. I have 18x8.5" wheels on +35mm offset. They are too far out and rub the rear fender lips.

I know this post is pretty old but I decided to share my own experience. I have 235/40/18 on my car with s techs and it rubs like crazy. After I drove away I would rub from turning at 40+ mph and on the bumps in the road.

Am I the only one that thinks the stock tires are already pretty wide for the car? If you look at other small cars, like the saturn I used to own, it only had 195/65R15 (I believe). The widest I would ever want to go is about 225. That gives just about the right balance between dry summer driving and wintery snow driving. Wider tires would suck in the winter time.

xxsoysaucexx - Never too late to open up old topics. Was this your front or rear tires?

I dont like the cold so wider is not a problem.:) I just wished that I could make full use of the width of my 8.5" wheels. I am trying to find a CNC machine shop that shave the hubs on the wheels about 5mm so that a wider tire will fit on them. No luck so far.

I'm going to revive this thread again to find out about this. In a perfect world where I have the money to run a summer set-up and a winter set-up, I would like to know what I would have to do to get something like this to fit. I just saw my first set of 285 tires today. I think I fell in love. So much rubber lol. What would I have to do to get them to fit without rubbing and without using some kind of spacer? Also, what do you think they would look like on a tC?

Do you have a link or pic of said rubber goodness? :drool5: They won't fit on the stock rims and I am fairly certain that your looking at a wide body kit or a fender shave at the least. 285.4mm=11.4in Measure your fender wells.

Well, I didn't think to take any pics of them. I saw them in Pep-Boys while looking for wheels and tires for my father's S-10. He's looking to go with 16'' wheels and 256/75/16 tires. While we were looking at tires, I spotted them. Unfortunately, they were only for 20" wheels (yuck). I got interested in them after seeing a set in the video that I posted in the video section. I was just wondering if I had the money for the wheels and tires, could I fit them on there without modifications. Wide body kit is ugly (sorry to anyone who reads this and has one). I don't know what is involved in a fender shave. Here is a pic of a 285/40/17. Tell me they wouldn't look good...

Those look like they would shred pavement. Put those tires on rims though and your looking at rubber bands.

Looks like they will grab the pavement so hard that it would peel the pavement right up. Super traction. Rubber bands as sidewall profile on 20" wheels would look like that DUB look. Rubber bands.

Oh, ok. I know what you mean now. I agree. That pic is supposed to be of 17". I don't know. Either way, I think it would make an awesome summer set-up.

I've been looking at some wheels and all the ones I find mostly have a +35 offset. DO these rub on all cars or just lowered?

Stock height should not rub unless you might have a heavy load. If you lower, then you will have to keep the excessive negative camber and run a narrow, low profile tire depending on the amount of lowering.

Ok. So if I keep my stock heighth for now, I could go with a +35 offset.

It will all depend on the overall width of the inflated tire.

Ok. Sorry to be asking so many questions, I just want to make sure that if I started a build sheet, I would be getting everything right. If you can't do it right the first time, don't do it at all, you know? I was looking into the wheels in the other thread I showed you and was hoping to go with a 225/40/18 setup. What do you think?

    That should be perfectly fine.
