Winter Driving?

wats up everyone....

i just got my Tc about 3 weeks ago finally after a long wait...anyways...i live in the midwest and want to know if anybody knows how well the 5 spd Tc drives and handles in the cold and snow?

I use to live in the midwest a while back but from what i remember nothing drives well in winter mostly if you live in the states where it snows. Plus u wouldnt wanna put your tc through the torture of snow and slippery roads.

tell me about it...just last week on my way from work it was snowing badly outside...it sucked putting my car through it....right now its sitting outside dirty from the snow and salt...gotta go get cleaned now...i gotta admit i was kinda scared driving it that day cause this is my first car thats stick...

i drove my car in the snow today and itabsolutely sucked! i was going under 20 the whole time and i skidded 4 times! one out of the 4 times i almosted crashed into the guy in front of me but i layed on my horn so he moved. i really dissapointed. i have the red edition of the scion that came with the black summer wheels. i love the black wheels but i think i might have to get some plain winter wheels. rather change the wheels for a few months than crash my car...

It's not so great during hard rain either. I just don't feel confident. Is it just the stock tires?

we just had a snow storm in chicago a week ago on thursday and the car sucked...i was also skidding all over the place and went as far as 2nd gear...i noticed that the back of the car has not weight what so ever so i'm considering buying (2) 50 pound bags of salt and putting them in the trunk....i might also buy new wheels for next winter rather than taking a chance in ruining my car...wish me look, we are supposed to get another snow storm tomorrow

I haven't had any problems with my tC in Minneapolis, even after we got 10 inches of snow a few weeks ago. I've been driving a stick through MN winters since I was 16, and my trick has always been to try and drive a gear higher than I normally would when the weather is nasty (try driving in 3rd @ 20 mph instead of 2nd). It keeps the wheels from spinning too much on the ice/snow, which is the easiest way to loose control.

Now that the weather's clearing up, I can look back and evaluate how my tC did over this course of this last winter. I live in central Indiana and we got hit a couple times that resulted in 7 or 8 inches. I've got an automatic, and I did just fine. When I got the car, I went ahead and got the 18 inch wheels. You get to keep the stock wheels, too. It works out nicely. I use the 18s for nice weather (late spring through mid fall), then switch over to the stock 17s for the nastier stuff. The stock tires seem to do just pretty well in rain, snow, and ice. Though I do agree, with a manual transmission, drive one gear higher than you normally do in winter. It'll deliver less immediate torque to the drive wheels and help keep you from spinning.

well, hear i thought that the tc did REALLY well in the snow for low profile tires. got the yokohama all seasons and i must say(my last car an 87 honda crx auto)that the tc is absolutely a dream in the snow as long as you drive carefully but then i've lived in new england all my life and snow driving is just something you deal with. i will say that investing in snow tires and saving your:driving: summers would be a good idea. and this being my first 5 spd also i have to say i'm never going back, you have so much more control over the car.
